Open space is defined in the NPPF as: All open space of public value, including not just land, but also areas of water (such as rivers, canals, lakes and reservoirs) which offer important opportunities for sport and recreation and can act as a visual amenity. Open spaces and recreation areas provide a vital function as part of the network of green infrastructure supporting town and other urban areas to make them attractive, provide a positive contribution to biodiversity and nature conservation and for use by local communities. Through this, such spaces help to aid healthy lifestyles and play a role in general well-being for the Borough’s residents and other users. The Assessment involves assessing the quality and quantity of open spaces in the Borough and identifying any deficiencies. An important part of this assessment process is to understand local use and need using this questionnaire.
