We generally support the principles of this policy in relation to water quality and also contaminated land remediation. To improve this policy in relation to the benefits sustainable drainage schemes can have on water quality discharges to the environment, we would like to see the following wording included "Where practical, SuDS should be incorporated to minimise the discharge water to the sewer system" à "Where practical, SuDS should be incorporated to minimise the discharge water to the sewer

Although you have included specific policy on green and blue infrastructure which we fully support, we would like to see a commitment within the overarching strategy for these areas to include reference to the watercourses and water environment which is present within them. Within the opportunities paragraphs, we recommend including wording to support proposals which protect and enhance watercourses and their habitat, thereby increasing biodiversity and improving wildlife networks. We certainly support the intentions that this policy is aiming to achieve, and are pleased to see reference to both green and blue infrastructure provision being sought. However, we do not feel this policy goes far enough to ensure it has a positive effect on biodiversity. A numerical commitment to biodiversity net gain is required in order to be in line with upcoming Environment Bill. We would support a 10% target for biodiversity net gain and the use of Natural Englands Biodiversity Metric 2.0

  • Status: Accepted
We fully support the aim of this policy which recognises the importance of the River Thames as an asset and promotes measures to ensure development is both appropriate to the setting and conserving the biodiversity of the Thames. However, considering the emphasis this policy places on the natural ecological benefit this river already provides, we wish to see a greater commitment to ensuring that an 8 – 10 metre natural wildlife corridor is sought for all development, where feasible, along this

We are in support of your aims to ensure high quality design is supported within development schemes. We would like you to consider the opportunity to dramatically improve the quality and sustainability of development within the Borough through the "Building with Nature" principles. The scheme involves incorporating water, wildlife and wellbeing into development design and schemes are able to achieve 3 ratings from design award to full award for exemplary schemes. We would like to see this polic

A Water Cycle Study has not been published and this is an important baseline evidence document which we have previously advised you on in November 2019. Please ensure this is considered and any recommendations promoted by the study are incorporated within this policy.

We advise that it is important to ensure that development considered appropriate within the green belt, including replacement buildings and extensions are required to deliver biodiversity net gain and recommend that this is a provision included with the policy.
